An Additional Book to Our Alzheimer’s Book List of Five

January 16, 2017 in Our News & Bulletins by Anchor Health Care

As many of you know back in November we posted a list of five must read books for people caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s Disease.  I just read a book I want to add to the list of five.  The name of the book is Coach Broyles’ Playbook for Alzheimer’s Caregivers.  The author is Frank Broyles the long time football coach and athletic director for the University of Arkansas.  This is a how to manual of how Coach Broyles deals with the everyday issues of Alzheimer’s caring for his wife Barbara.  He treats Alzheimer’s disease as the opponent and he sets up a game plan to deal with the disease.  The sections of the book are set-up as follows:

PRE-GAME PLANNING

what is Alzheimer’s and dementia

COACHES AND SPECIAL TEAMS

finding the right doctor

questions to ask the doctor

PLAYING OFFENSE

taking care of yourself

PLAYING DEFENSE

making memories

THE TRAINING TABLE

eating problems

I highly recommend this book to any caregiver dealing with dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease.

To obtain the Playbook:

I would like to end this blog with the following included in the Playbook.  The author is unknown.

Do not ask me to remember

Don’t try to make me understand.

Let me rest and know your’re with me.

Kiss my check and hold my hand.

I’m confused beyond your concept

I am sad and sick and lost.

All I know is that I need you to be with me at all cost.

Do not lose your patience with me.

Do not scold or curse or cry.

I can’t help the way I’m acting,

can’t be different though I try.

Just remember that I need you, that the best of me is gone.

Please don’t fail to stand beside me, love me til my life is done.
